Promote your eBay listings on Instagram with FLUF Connect
Turn eBay listing photos into Instagram carousels and scheduled posts, and send followers to eBay checkout within eBay's off-site sales rules.
- Instagram is a promotion surface here, not a second marketplace. FLUF Connect does not copy stock to Instagram, does not detect sales there, and does not relist, manage offers or mark anything sold on Instagram. It turns the photographs from an eBay listing into an Instagram post or carousel, helps you write the caption, and publishes it now or at a date and time you choose.
- The traffic must run one way: from Instagram into eBay checkout. eBay’s policy on offers to buy or sell outside eBay bans completing a sale off eBay and bans sharing contact details, including a social media ID, with a member before a transaction. Sending followers to your eBay listing is fine; taking an eBay buyer to your Instagram DMs to close a cheaper deal is not.
- Your bio link can be an eBay Partner Network link. eBay’s help page on the programme says affiliate links can point to specific listings, including your own. The old seller incentive that credited back the final value fee on those sales was reported as ended for US sellers from 1 August 2025, so check today’s terms before you count on it.
- An eBay Shop gives Instagram somewhere better to land. In the UK, Basic, Featured and Anchor shops (£27, £77 and £437 a month, excluding VAT) include a customisable shopfront and a unique URL you can use in your marketing.
- eBay already sells its own off-eBay ads. Promoted Offsite is cost-per-click and shows fixed-price listings on channels such as Google. Your own Instagram posts cost no clicks and build an audience that belongs to you.
- You cannot tag eBay listings in a post. Meta’s shop rules want product links on your own business domain, and ebay.com is not yours. The bio link, Story link stickers and the caption text do the work instead.
- Cost. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month.

What FLUF does with an eBay listing on Instagram, and what it does not
eBay is a full crosslisting channel in FLUF Connect. When an item sells on eBay, FLUF detects the sale and updates stock on your other connected channels; when an item sells on another channel where FLUF detects sales, FLUF ends the eBay listing. Relisting and offer management for eBay come with the plans above Starter.
Instagram is different. It has no listing, no quantity and no checkout for FLUF to keep in step with eBay, so none of the crosslisting features apply to it. What FLUF offers for Instagram is a composer:
- Search the products you have in FLUF, including the ones that came from your eBay account, and pick up to ten photographs for one post. You can also upload your own images alongside them.
- Write the caption yourself, or ask FLUF to draft one from the photos you picked. You choose a tone and can add your own instructions, and you edit the draft before anything is published.
- Publish now, or pick a date and time. FLUF emails you to confirm a scheduled post, emails you again with the link when it has gone out, and emails you the reason if a scheduled post could not be published. If a post you publish straight away is refused, FLUF shows you the reason on screen.
- See an activity log of the posts you have published and scheduled.
To connect, you sign in with an Instagram professional account, meaning Business or Creator. Meta’s publishing documentation limits publishing to professional accounts. You do not need a Facebook Page. If your account is personal, switch it in the Instagram app under account type and tools, then connect.
eBay’s off-site sales policy, read as an Instagram seller
eBay’s rule is short. The policy page says: “Offering to buy or sell outside of eBay is not allowed. Buyers and sellers also can’t share contact information, including email addresses and phone numbers, prior to completing a transaction on eBay.”
The detail matters more than the headline, because several of the listed breaches are exactly the things an Instagram-minded seller is tempted to do. Under that policy you must not:
- share a social media ID, instant messenger ID, email address or phone number with another member before a transaction is complete;
- in any communication with another member, refer to or promote an external website that facilitates sales outside eBay;
- list an item and then mention or link to identical or related items for sale outside eBay;
- use contact details from an eBay transaction to offer to buy or sell outside eBay.
Enforcement can mean the listing is removed, a warning, restricted activity or account suspension, according to the same page.
Read against Instagram, that gives you a simple test. Traffic that starts on Instagram and ends in eBay checkout is the whole point of this feature and nothing in the policy stops it. Traffic that starts on eBay and ends somewhere else is where the risk sits. In practice:
- Fine: a carousel of a vintage camera with “on eBay now, link in bio”; a bio link to your eBay Shop; a Story sticker that opens the listing.
- Not fine: putting your Instagram handle in an eBay listing description or an eBay message to a buyer who has not yet paid.
- Not fine: an Instagram follower who asks “can I pay you direct and skip the fees?” being told yes. Point them to the listing, or use Best Offer or a seller-initiated offer, which eBay names as the way to negotiate.
A buyer who pays through eBay checkout keeps the eBay Money Back Guarantee, which is also your best argument when a follower pushes for a side deal.
eBay Partner Network: turning the bio link into a tracked link
A plain link to your listing tells you nothing about whether Instagram sold it. eBay’s affiliate programme can fill that gap. eBay describes eBay Partner Network as a way to earn by referring buyers to eBay: you earn a commission when visitors click your link and then win or buy an item, with rates set by category as a share of eBay’s revenue from the transaction. The same page says the links can go to specific listings, including your own.
For an Instagram seller, the practical value is attribution. Commission is paid on purchases that follow a click on your link, so a partner link in your bio or on a Story sticker is how you find out whether Instagram followers are actually buying, rather than guessing from overall sales in Seller Hub.
Three rules to respect:
- Affiliate links belong off eBay. eBay Partner Network’s list of common missteps bans “roundtripping” and says you must not use affiliate links on your other eBay listings to drive traffic to those items. Instagram is off eBay, so a bio link is the intended use; a link inside a listing is not.
- The fee credit is not what it was. For years sellers joined so that sales of their own items through their own links earned a credit matching the final value fee. Value Added Resource reported that eBay removed that incentive for US-based sellers in an agreement change effective 1 August 2025, with eBay’s creator-focused Ambassador programme offered as the alternative. Read the current network agreement for your country before assuming a sale through your own link changes your fees.
- Apply before you post. The programme has its own sign-up and approval at partnernetwork.ebay.com, separate from your eBay seller account.
eBay Shops: the landing page your followers should reach
Where a follower lands decides whether they buy. An eBay seller profile is a feedback page; an eBay Shop is a storefront. eBay UK’s shop subscription page lists these tiers, all excluding VAT:
| eBay UK shop | Monthly price | Included fixed-price listings per month | Included auction listings per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| No shop | — | None (30p each) | None (30p each) |
| Basic | £27 | 250 | 100 |
| Featured | £77 | 1,500 | 600 |
| Anchor | £437 | Unlimited | 1,000 |
The Instagram-relevant part is in the feature list on that page: shop tiers include “a customisable shopfront and a unique URL that you can use in your marketing”, and access to eBay marketing tools including Promote your listings and customisable email campaigns.
How to use that from Instagram:
- One bio link to the shopfront. The unique URL is short enough to say out loud in a Reel and type from memory.
- One bio link to a category inside the shop. If most of your carousels are trainers, send people to trainers, not to the shop’s front page. Instagram has allowed up to five links in a bio since April 2023, so you have room for both plus a tracked link.
- Match the shopfront to the feed. The same banner image and the same wording on Instagram and on the shopfront tells a follower they are in the right place.
Without a shop you can still link a single listing or your seller profile. For a seller who lists a handful of items a month, that is often enough.
Promoted Offsite versus posting yourself
eBay has its own product for reaching buyers who are not on eBay yet. Promoted Offsite puts your eligible listings in ads on external channels “like Google”. eBay’s help page sets out how it works for the seller:
- it is cost-per-click, and you pay only when someone clicks an ad;
- only fixed-price listings are eligible, not auctions;
- a sale counts towards the ad if the buyer purchases any item from you within 30 days of clicking any of your Promoted Offsite ads.
That last rule is the one to watch if you also post on Instagram. A buyer who clicked one of your offsite ads last week and then follows your bio link today can still be attributed to the ad. You cannot tell from eBay’s side which of the two really sold the item, which is another reason to put a tracked eBay Partner Network link in your bio.
The two approaches do different jobs. Promoted Offsite spends money to put a listing in front of someone who is already searching. Instagram posts cost no clicks, reach people who chose to follow you, and keep reaching them after the item sells. Many sellers will want both; this page only covers the second.
What an eBay sale costs when Instagram sent the buyer
An eBay sale that started on Instagram is still an eBay sale, and it carries eBay’s normal fees. In the UK, the figures that matter most are these:
- UK private sellers: eBay’s private seller fee page says UK-based private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee when items sell, except in motors. That page also gives 300 listings a month before a 35p charge for each extra listing.
- UK business sellers: final value fees apply and vary by category; eBay’s business seller fee page lists the rate for each category, a per-order fee and a regulatory operating fee. Look up your own category rather than using an average.
For a private seller, that makes the maths easy: an Instagram follower who buys through eBay checkout costs you nothing extra on top of what the same buyer would cost from eBay search. For a business seller, the category rate is the same whether the buyer came from Instagram or from eBay search.
On the FLUF side, 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month. Crosslisting, inventory sync, order sync and bulk operations are on every plan; relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with the plans above Starter.
From eBay listing to published post
- Connect eBay to FLUF Connect, if you have not already. Your eBay listings and their photographs then appear among your products in FLUF.
- Connect Instagram from the Instagram screen in FLUF, signing in with the professional account you want to post from.
- Search for the item by its title or SKU. If an eBay listing does not appear, check that it has come through to your products in FLUF first.
- Pick the photographs, up to ten. The order you pick them in is the order of the slides. Add an uploaded image if you want a slide the listing does not have, such as a size chart or a shot of the parcel ready to go.
- Write or draft the caption. Choose a tone, add instructions such as “mention it is on eBay, link in bio”, and edit the draft.
- Publish or schedule. A scheduled post gets a confirmation email, then an email with its link once it is live, or an email with the reason if it could not be published. If a scheduled post fails, reconnect Instagram if FLUF asks you to and post it again.
Edit or delete a post after it is live in the Instagram app.

Getting eBay photos to work as a carousel
eBay listing photos are shot to answer a buyer’s questions: every angle, every mark, the label, the serial number. That makes them good carousel material, with two adjustments.
Slide one sets the shape of every slide. Meta’s publishing documentation says: “Carousel images are all cropped based on the first image in the carousel, with the default being a 1:1 aspect ratio.” If your eBay hero shot is 1:1 and your detail shots are tall, the detail shots lose their top and bottom. Either pick a hero shot with the same shape as the rest, or reshoot the set in one ratio next time you photograph stock for eBay.
Put the evidence in the middle. On eBay the condition shots sit wherever you uploaded them. On Instagram, a sensible order is:
- the clean hero shot;
- the item in use or worn, if you have one;
- brand label, model number or maker’s mark;
- close-ups of any wear, the same ones your eBay condition notes describe;
- scale: next to a hand, a ruler or a coin;
- a closing slide that says where to buy, for example your shop name and “link in bio”.
Showing the wear on Instagram that you disclose on eBay also protects you later: a buyer who saw the scuff in the carousel and again in the listing has little ground for an “item not as described” claim.
Carousels are also the format with the best evidence behind them. Socialinsider’s benchmark of 35 million Instagram posts from 447,613 pages across 2025 puts carousels at 0.55% engagement, Reels at 0.52% and single images at 0.37%.
Captions that sell an eBay item without breaking eBay’s rules
Captions are not clickable, and the feed shows only the opening lines before the “more” link. So the first line has to carry the item and the call to action. A workable pattern for eBay stock:
- Line one: what it is, in the words a buyer would search on eBay. “Nikon FM2 body, 1980s, shutter tested.”
- Line two: where to buy. “Listed on eBay now, link in bio.” If you include the price, keep it the same as the eBay listing.
- Then: condition in plain words, what is included, and postage options as set out in the listing.
- Last: a few relevant hashtags. Instagram announced in November 2024 that it was removing the option to follow hashtags; you can still use them in posts and search by them.
What to leave out, for eBay’s sake: an email address, a phone number, “DM me for a better price”, and any suggestion that followers can buy direct. Each of those invites exactly the off-eBay contact the policy bans. If you use FLUF’s caption drafter, add “send buyers to eBay, no direct sales” to the instructions and check the draft before you publish.
If you sell the same item on several platforms, name only the platform the bio link goes to. A caption that says “eBay, Depop and Vinted” with one eBay link in the bio sends two-thirds of the interested followers to a dead end.
Why eBay listings cannot carry product tags
Instagram’s product tags come from a Meta shop and a catalogue, and Meta’s catalogue eligibility requirements say product links must be hosted on your own business’s website domain, not a domain claimed by another business. An eBay listing lives on eBay’s domain. You cannot verify it as yours, so a Meta shop cannot tag eBay listings, whichever tool you post with.
That leaves three clickable routes from Instagram to an eBay listing:
- the links in your profile bio;
- a link sticker on a Story, which you add in the Instagram app;
- a reply to someone who asks, with a link to the eBay listing itself.
If you also run a store on your own domain, such as a Shopify store, tagging becomes possible for that store’s products. It still does not cover the eBay copies.
What happens to the post when the item sells
When the item sells on eBay, FLUF detects the sale and updates stock on your other connected channels. The Instagram post is not changed or removed, because it is a post, not a listing.
What you do by hand:
- Decide whether to keep the post. Many sellers keep sold items up as proof of what they stock, and add “SOLD” to the start of the caption in the Instagram app.
- If the bio link pointed at that one listing, change it to the shop or a category so followers do not land on an ended item.
- If a follower asks about a sold item, point them to similar live listings in your eBay Shop rather than offering to find one privately.
If you relist an unsold eBay item, the eBay listing can change, so check any bio link or Story sticker that pointed at the old one. Relisting comes with the plans above Starter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not for items you sell on eBay. eBay’s policy on offers to buy or sell outside eBay bans completing a sale off eBay and bans sharing contact details, including a social media ID, with a member before a transaction. Use Instagram to send followers to your eBay listing or Shop, and let them pay through eBay checkout.
Sending people from Instagram to your eBay listings is not what the policy targets. The risk runs the other way: putting your Instagram handle, email or phone number in an eBay listing or message, or telling a follower they can pay you direct. Keep the call to action as “on eBay now, link in bio”.
No. Instagram is not a sales channel in FLUF Connect. FLUF does not copy stock to Instagram, detect sales there, relist, manage offers or mark anything sold on Instagram. It creates Instagram posts and carousels from your product photos and publishes them now or at a time you choose.
The post stays as it is. FLUF detects the eBay sale and updates stock on your other connected channels, but it does not edit or remove Instagram posts. If you want to mark the post as sold or delete it, do that in the Instagram app, and update any bio link that pointed at the ended listing.
Yes. eBay’s help page says partner links can point to specific listings, including your own, and partner links are meant to be used off eBay, not inside your eBay listings. A third-party report says the credit that refunded the final value fee on your own items ended for US-based sellers from 1 August 2025, so read the current agreement for your country.
No. You connect by signing in with an Instagram professional account, meaning Business or Creator. Personal accounts cannot publish this way; switch the account type in the Instagram app, then connect.
No. Meta’s shop rules require product links on your own business domain, and an eBay listing is on eBay’s domain. Use the links in your bio, a Story link sticker, or a reply with the listing link instead.
FLUF Connect has a 7-day trial for £1, then plans from £9/month. Crosslisting, inventory sync, order sync and bulk operations are on every plan; relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with the plans above Starter. eBay’s own fees still apply to the sale, as they would for any eBay buyer.
FLUF emails you the reason. Fix the cause, reconnect Instagram if FLUF asks you to, and post it again.
