Gumtree to Stripe: Take Card Payments on the Doorstep
How FLUF Connect turns your Gumtree items into Stripe Payment Links with QR codes, what card payments cost, and how to stop an item selling twice.
Selling on Gumtree usually ends on a doorstep, and the awkward part is the money. The buyer has no cash, a bank transfer takes a minute to show and you are not sure it has really arrived. A Stripe Payment Link fixes that: the buyer scans a QR code or taps a link, pays by card on Stripe’s checkout, and you see the payment before the item leaves your hands. FLUF Connect turns the items in your Gumtree inventory into Stripe products with their own Payment Links, so the link is ready when the buyer arrives.
In short
- Each Gumtree item you send gets a Stripe product and a Payment Link limited to the quantity you have, with a QR code in your Stripe Dashboard.
- Stripe charges 1.5% + 20p on a standard UK card. There is no monthly fee and nothing extra for using Payment Links.
- When someone pays by the link, mark the item sold in FLUF and delete the Gumtree ad.
- When the item goes to a Gumtree buyer some other way, mark it sold in FLUF and its Stripe link stops taking payments.
Who this is for
This is for UK Gumtree sellers who meet buyers face to face: furniture and bike sellers, house clearances, and anyone who also sells at car boots or markets. It is not a way to take Gumtree buyers off Gumtree’s own checkout. If the buyer wants delivery and buyer protection, they can pay through Gumtree. The Stripe link is for the buyer standing in front of you who would rather pay by card than count out notes.
What each way of paying costs
Gumtree’s fees page says sellers pay nothing when a buyer pays through Gumtree. The buyer pays a protection fee of £0.70 plus 5% to 10% of the price, and delivery. Cash on collection costs neither side anything.
Stripe’s UK pricing page charges 1.5% + 20p on a standard UK card, with no monthly fee. A Payment Link costs nothing extra to create.
| £150 chest of drawers | Cash | Paid through Gumtree | Stripe Payment Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seller pays | £0 | £0 | £2.45 |
| Buyer pays on top | £0 | Protection fee, from £8.20 | £0 |
| Proof of payment | Notes in your hand | Gumtree’s checkout | The payment in your Stripe Dashboard |
For a seller, Stripe is the only one of the three with a cost. You pay £2.45 so the buyer can use a card at the door and you can confirm the payment before they lift the drawers into the van.
How to send Gumtree items to Stripe
- Connect Gumtree UK in FLUF Connect through the FLUF browser extension. Your Gumtree ads appear in your FLUF inventory.
- Connect Stripe from the Stripe card on the Channels screen and approve the FLUF Connect app when Stripe asks.
- Filter the inventory to Gumtree UK and select the items buyers will collect.
- Choose Stripe as the destination, check the price and publish.

Each item becomes a Stripe product with its own Payment Link, limited to the quantity you hold. Stripe’s sharing guide explains how to download the link’s QR code from the Dashboard. Print it and tape it to the item, or keep it on your phone and show it at the door. You can also paste the link into the Gumtree chat once a buyer has agreed to collect.
A price change in FLUF creates a new Stripe link. If you have already printed a QR code and then drop the price, print the new one.
Keeping the two in step
| What happens | What to do |
|---|---|
| Buyer pays by the Stripe link or QR code | Mark the item sold in FLUF, then delete the Gumtree ad |
| Buyer pays cash or through Gumtree | Mark the item sold in FLUF. The Stripe link is switched off and anyone scanning it sees that the item has sold. Delete the Gumtree ad. |
| Relisting and offers | Not available through FLUF on Gumtree or Stripe |
Neither Gumtree nor Stripe sales show up in FLUF on their own, so the routine is the same either way: when money changes hands, mark it sold in FLUF and remove the Gumtree ad. Doing it on the doorstep stops a second buyer paying an old link.
Things to watch
- Collection only. A Payment Link does not book a courier. For posted items, use Gumtree’s checkout or another marketplace with postage built in.
- Disputes. Stripe charges £20 for a card dispute in the UK, according to its pricing page. Keep a photo of the handover and the buyer’s messages.
- Gumtree UK only. FLUF’s Gumtree channel is gumtree.com. Gumtree Australia is a separate business with its own guide.
What FLUF costs
Crosslisting and inventory sync are on every FLUF plan, from £9 a month for Starter. Relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with Pro and above, but FLUF offers none of them on Gumtree or Stripe. You can start with 7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
