Key Takeaways — Crosslisting from willhaben to Shopify

  • Two jobs, two channels: willhaben brings Austrian buyers who are already browsing; a Shopify store gives you a permanent shop under your own name, where you keep the customer relationship.
  • Crosslisting: bring your willhaben ads into FLUF Connect, check each product, then publish to Shopify one at a time or in bulk.
  • Sales on Shopify: FLUF Connect detects them and updates stock, but it does not end the willhaben ad. You deactivate or delete the ad on willhaben yourself.
  • Sales on willhaben: FLUF Connect does not detect them. Mark the item sold in FLUF Connect and check the Shopify product shows zero stock.
  • Relisting: FLUF Connect can relist expired willhaben ads on the plans above Starter. Shopify products do not expire, so there is nothing to relist there.
  • Austrian rules: a regular, profit-seeking shop needs a trade licence, a § 5 ECG information page and a 14-day withdrawal process for consumers.
  • Cost: 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then FLUF Connect plans from £9/month with unlimited listings.

Why Sell on Both willhaben and Shopify?

willhaben is where Austrians go first when they want to buy or sell second-hand. Adevinta describes willhaben as Austria’s biggest digital marketplace, a joint venture between Styria Media Group and Adevinta, with more than 8 million unique clients and 1.4 billion page impressions per month. For a country of Austria’s size, that is a very large share of the online audience in one place.

That reach comes with limits. Buyers on willhaben contact you through the platform, ads run for a limited period and then expire, and your listings sit beside thousands of other sellers offering similar items. When a buyer is done, there is no store of yours for them to come back to.

A Shopify store fixes the second half of that problem. It is a shop under your own brand and, if you want, your own domain. Products stay online until you remove them. Buyers who order give you their details for delivery, so the relationship is yours to keep within data-protection rules. The trade-off is that Shopify brings no audience of its own: you drive the visitors, through search, social media, or by printing your shop address on the packing slip of every willhaben parcel you send.

Selling on both lets each channel do what it is good at. willhaben finds the local buyer who is searching today. Shopify collects the repeat buyers, the people who found you through a search engine, and the customers outside Austria who would never open an Austrian classifieds site.

What Shopify costs in Austria

Shopify publishes Austrian prices in euros. On Shopify’s Austrian pricing page, the Basic plan is listed at €32 per month with monthly billing or €24 per month with yearly billing, and online card payments through Shopify Payments on Basic cost 2% + €0.25 for standard cards and 3.5% + €0.25 for American Express and international cards. Prices can change, so check that page before you sign up. These costs sit on top of your FLUF Connect plan, not inside it.

Compare this with how you sell on willhaben today. If most of your sales are cash on collection, a Shopify store adds a monthly fee and payment fees you did not pay before. If you already ship a lot of items, the numbers look different: you are packing parcels anyway, and a store lets you sell the same stock to buyers who never visit willhaben.

How to Crosslist from willhaben to Shopify with FLUF Connect

  1. Create your FLUF Connect account. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month.
  2. Connect willhaben. You need the FLUF browser extension to connect your willhaben account. Install it, sign in to willhaben as usual, and follow the connect step in FLUF Connect.
  3. Connect Shopify. Add your Shopify store from the channels page in FLUF Connect and approve the connection in Shopify.
  4. Bring in your willhaben ads. Your active ads appear in FLUF Connect as products you can work with.
  5. Review each product. Open a product and check the title, description, photos, price and the details Shopify needs. The checklist below covers what to look at.
  6. Publish to Shopify. Crosslist a single product, or select many and use bulk operations to publish them together.
  7. Check your storefront. Open two or three products on your live Shopify store and look at them as a buyer would before you crosslist the rest.

Start with a small batch. It is easier to spot a problem, such as photos in the wrong order or a price that needs rounding, in ten products than in three hundred.

What to Check Before You Publish

A willhaben ad is written for someone scrolling a classifieds feed. A Shopify product page is read by someone deciding whether to trust a shop they may never have heard of. The same item often needs a little more detail on Shopify. Before you publish, go through this list.

  • Title. Classifieds titles are often short and informal. On your own shop, lead with the brand, the item type and the most important attribute, for example size or model.
  • Description. Add the details a buyer who cannot see the item in person needs: measurements, material, any marks or wear, and what is included.
  • Photos. Check the first photo is the clearest one, because it becomes the image in collection pages and search results.
  • Price. Decide whether the Shopify price should match willhaben. Some sellers add a small amount to cover card fees and shipping packaging; others keep prices identical so buyers see the same number everywhere.
  • Condition. Say plainly whether the item is new or used, and describe any defects. Austrian consumers can withdraw from a distance purchase, so a clear description reduces returns.
  • Weight. If you want Shopify to calculate shipping rates by weight, each product needs a weight.
  • Collections and product type. Put products into collections that make sense for your shop, such as “Damenmode”, “Möbel” or “Elektronik”, so visitors can browse.
  • Stock quantity. Second-hand items are usually one of a kind. Make sure the quantity is 1, so the product cannot sell twice on Shopify.
  • Language. If you want buyers outside Austria, decide whether your shop is German only or also offers English, and write descriptions to match.

Sales and Stock Between willhaben and Shopify — What FLUF Connect Does and What You Do

This is the part to read carefully. For this pair, FLUF Connect helps in one direction only, and one step is always yours.

Event What FLUF Connect does What you do
Item sells on Shopify Detects the sale and updates the product’s stock Deactivate or delete the willhaben ad yourself — FLUF Connect does not end it
Item sells on willhaben Does not detect the sale Mark the item sold in FLUF Connect, and check the Shopify product shows zero stock
willhaben ad expires Can relist it on the plans above Starter Nothing, if relisting is switched on

FLUF Connect does not detect sales on willhaben, and it does not end willhaben ads when an item sells elsewhere. That is true for every channel you pair with willhaben, not only Shopify. If you also list on eBay, for example, an eBay sale is detected, but the willhaben ad still stays up until you take it down.

Compare that with Kleinanzeigen in Germany, where FLUF Connect does detect sales. If you sell across the border as well, do not assume the two classifieds sites behave the same way inside FLUF Connect.

The two manual steps you cannot skip

When an item sells on willhaben, mark it sold in FLUF Connect so it is not sold again on Shopify. When an item sells on Shopify, go to willhaben and take the ad down, so a local buyer does not message you about something you have already shipped. Make both steps part of how you handle every sale.

The risk is not the same in both directions. A missed willhaben sale can lead to a Shopify order for an item you no longer have, which means a cancellation and a refund. A missed Shopify sale usually means an awkward message to a willhaben buyer who wanted to collect. Both hurt your reputation, but the first costs you money and a shop review, so treat willhaben sales as the higher priority.

Relisting and Feature Availability

Relisting on willhaben

willhaben ads do not run forever. When an ad expires, it stops showing to buyers. FLUF Connect relisting can put expired willhaben ads back up as new ads, so items that have not sold keep appearing. Relisting comes with the plans above Starter. Shopify products do not expire, so relisting does not apply on that side.

Relisting pairs well with the manual steps above. Before you turn it on for a batch of products, make sure anything you have already sold is marked sold in FLUF Connect. Otherwise an item that sold at a collection last week could reappear on willhaben.

PayLivery Versus Shopify Checkout

A willhaben sale can end with the buyer collecting the item in person. For shipped items, willhaben offers its own payment service, PayLivery. Austria’s government online-safety portal explains that with PayLivery the buyer pays online, PayLivery holds the money instead of passing it straight to the seller, the seller prints a shipping label from willhaben, and the seller receives the money once the parcel has arrived.

Shopify works differently. The buyer pays at your shop’s checkout, and you ship the order. Shopify’s help centre lists the payment methods for Shopify Payments in Austria: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express and UnionPay cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay, plus local methods including EPS for Austrian customers and Klarna. EPS matters here, because many Austrian shoppers prefer to pay straight from their bank account rather than by card.

The practical difference for you: on willhaben, the platform stands between you and the buyer. On Shopify, you are the merchant. That means you handle refunds, returns and customer questions yourself, and the legal duties in the next section apply to your shop.

This section is general information, not legal advice. If you are unsure whether your selling counts as a business, ask your local chamber of commerce or a tax adviser.

Trade licence (Gewerbeberechtigung)

Austria’s business ministry states that any kind of trade or business activity needs a trade licence, that applications go to the district or city administration authorities, and that registering a trade costs nothing. The USP business service portal explains that an activity under the Gewerbeordnung may be carried out independently, regularly and with the intention of making a profit once the trade is registered, and that you can apply in person, by post or electronically.

Clearing out your own wardrobe on willhaben is usually a private sale. Buying stock to resell, or running a Shopify store to sell regularly for profit, is the kind of activity these rules describe.

Information page under § 5 ECG

Once you run a commercial shop, Austria’s E-Commerce Act applies. The Austrian Economic Chamber lists the information § 5 ECG requires: your name or company name, the geographic address where you are established, contact details including an email address, your company register number and court where relevant, the supervisory authority, chamber membership, the professional rules that apply to you, and your VAT identification number if you have one. The same page says this information must be easy to find and directly accessible, for example on the home page or through a clearly visible link.

In Shopify, the usual approach is a dedicated page (often called “Impressum”) linked from the footer of every page. Write it once, and check it again whenever your address or registration details change.

14-day right of withdrawal

The European Consumer Centre Austria explains that consumers can withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days, counted from delivery of the parcel, and that after withdrawal the seller must refund the price of the item as well as the original delivery costs. The same page says the consumer normally bears only the direct cost of sending the goods back, unless the seller has agreed to pay it or failed to tell the consumer that they must.

Two practical points follow. First, state your return process and who pays return postage clearly in your Shopify policies, because failing to inform the buyer can leave you paying. Second, remember the refund covers the outbound delivery charge too, so build that into how you price shipping.

Shipping and Collection

Selling through your own shop means choosing a carrier. Österreichische Post offers standard parcel shipping and Post Express for faster shipments within Austria or abroad. DHL Express Austria is an option for international express parcels. Compare prices for the parcel sizes you actually send; bulky items such as furniture often make more sense as collection-only.

Collection is one habit your willhaben buyers already have. Shopify can offer it too: Shopify’s local pickup setting lets customers collect online orders from a location you choose, and a single order can mix shipped and collected items. If you sell large items locally on willhaben, turning on local pickup in Shopify lets the same buyers order through your shop and still collect.

Set shipping rates before you crosslist a large batch. If products have weights, Shopify can use them to calculate rates. If they do not, a simple flat rate per parcel size is often easier for one-of-a-kind stock.

A Simple Routine for Running Both Channels

Because this pair needs manual steps, a routine matters more than it does for channels where FLUF Connect handles sales both ways. A pattern that works for many sellers:

  1. Every time you agree a willhaben sale, mark the item sold in FLUF Connect before the buyer arrives or before you post it. Do it at the moment you agree, not at the end of the day.
  2. Every time a Shopify order comes in, open willhaben and take the matching ad down.
  3. Once a day, look through your open willhaben chats for anyone asking about an item that has already sold on Shopify, and reply.
  4. Once a week, compare your active willhaben ads with the products that show stock in Shopify. Anything live on one and sold on the other needs fixing.
  5. When you add new stock, list it on willhaben, bring it into FLUF Connect, review it against the checklist, and crosslist it to Shopify.

If you add further channels later, the willhaben steps stay the same. Every sale anywhere still means taking the willhaben ad down yourself, and every willhaben sale still needs marking sold in FLUF Connect.

How Much Does It Cost to Crosslist from willhaben to Shopify?

7 days for £1, then from £9/month. After that, FLUF Connect plans start at £9/month for Starter with unlimited listings, and the Growth (£19/month) and Seller (£29/month) plans add relisting, offer management and smart pricing. Every plan covers all 51 supported channels.

PlanMonthlyYearlyYou saveCrosslisted products
Starter£9/month£59/year45%Unlimited
Seller£29/month£199/year42%Unlimited
Pro£99/month£709/year40%Unlimited
Super SellerCustom pricing — tell us what you needUnlimited

Automatic relisting, offer management and smart pricing are included from Seller upwards. Starter covers unlimited crosslisting, inventory sync and order sync without them. Yearly billing is charged once a year. There is no free plan. New accounts get 7 days for £1, then move onto a plan.

Your other costs for this pair are the Shopify subscription and payment fees shown above, carrier costs for anything you ship, and any willhaben charges that apply to your account or category. Check willhaben’s own pages for the charges on your ads, because they depend on whether you sell privately or commercially.

Sources and verification

What we could not verify: willhaben’s help centre could not be retrieved during our research, so this page does not state the exact period after which a willhaben ad expires, the maximum number of photos per ad, or willhaben’s fees for private and commercial sellers. Check those on willhaben directly. Shopify prices and payment rates were taken from Shopify’s Austrian pricing page and can change.

Frequently Asked Questions

FLUF Connect starts with a 7-day trial for £1, then plans from £9/month (Starter) with unlimited listings. Growth is £19/month and Seller is £29/month. Crosslisting, inventory sync, order sync and bulk operations are on every plan across all 50+ supported channels; relisting, offer management and smart pricing come with the plans above Starter. Your Shopify subscription and payment fees are separate.

No. FLUF Connect detects the Shopify sale and updates the product’s stock, but it does not end willhaben ads. Deactivate or delete the ad on willhaben yourself.

FLUF Connect does not detect sales on willhaben. When you agree a willhaben sale, mark the item sold in FLUF Connect and check that the Shopify product shows zero stock, so it cannot sell twice.

Yes, on the plans above Starter. Expired willhaben ads can be put back up as new ads. Shopify products do not expire, so relisting applies to willhaben only.

You need the FLUF browser extension to connect willhaben. Shopify is added from the channels page in FLUF Connect, where you approve the connection in Shopify.

Check the title, a fuller description with measurements and defects, the order of the photos, the price, stock quantity (usually 1 for second-hand items), weight if you use weight-based shipping, and which collection each product belongs to.

Austria’s business ministry says any trade or business activity needs a trade licence (Gewerbeberechtigung), and registering a trade costs nothing. Selling regularly with the aim of making a profit is the kind of activity this covers. If you are unsure, ask your chamber of commerce.

A commercial shop must show the information required by § 5 ECG, such as your name, address, email and VAT number if you have one, where buyers can easily find it. Consumers can also withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days of delivery, and you must refund the price and the original delivery costs.
