Crosslist from Kijiji to Whatnot: a Canadian seller’s guide to fees, shipping and sync
Kijiji is a driveway handover with no fee; Whatnot is a shipped CAD marketplace that takes 8% and reports to the CRA. What transfers from a Kijiji ad, what you must add, and how a sale on either side is kept from selling twice across 50+ marketplaces.
- You are moving from a driveway handover to a parcel. Kijiji is a classifieds board: the buyer comes to you, pays cash or e-transfer, and Kijiji takes nothing. Whatnot is a shipped marketplace with a checkout, a label and a fee on every order. Everything on this page follows from that change.
- Whatnot has been open to Canadian sellers since April 2022 and has priced in CAD only since 15 April 2025. Listings, balance and payouts are all Canadian dollars, and you need a Canadian bank account to be paid without conversion charges.
- The fee is 8% of the sale price plus 2.9% of the whole order and C$0.30. Above C$1,500 on a single order in cards, comics, toys, coins, bags and jewellery, commission on the excess drops to 0% for a limited time — the strongest reason a Kijiji card seller has to try it.
- You do not have to stream. Buy It Now listings sit in your Profile Shop and sell without a show. But Whatnot’s discovery feeds carry live shows only, so a silent shop earns search traffic and nothing more.
- Kijiji ads carry almost no structure. Title, description, price, ten photos, five tags and a postal code. Whatnot wants a category, a condition from a per-category list and a shipping weight. Those three are where your attention goes.
- Sync runs one way automatically. A sale on Whatnot ends the matching Kijiji ad. A Kijiji sale is cash on your doorstep, so FLUF Connect cannot see it: mark the item sold in FLUF and Whatnot is cleared.

Why a Kijiji seller looks at Whatnot
A Kijiji seller moves to Whatnot for one reason: the buyer pool changes from a city to a country. Kijiji says it reaches nearly 5 million Canadians every month across more than 400 categories, but a Buy & Sell ad is seen by people willing to drive to your postal code. Whatnot ships, so a graded rookie card in Regina is priced against the same buyers as one in Mississauga.
The second reason is category fit. Kijiji is a general board where your vintage console sits beside apartments and used tyres. Whatnot was built around the things Canadian Kijiji sellers most often list under Buy & Sell — trading cards, toys, sneakers, video games, comics, coins and electronics — and its January 2026 report puts the live shopping market at $22 billion across North America and Europe, with Whatnot holding nearly 60 percent of it.
Whatnot opened to Canadian sellers on 14 April 2022, and since 15 April 2025 every Canadian seller sells in CAD, with no option to run in USD. Buyers abroad see an estimate in their own currency beside the CAD price. Whatnot’s advice is to link a CAD bank account, because CAD earnings paid into a USD account attract conversion fees, and PayPal is not available for CAD transactions at all.
The obvious rival for a Kijiji seller is not Whatnot but Facebook Marketplace, which most Canadian classifieds sellers already run in parallel. Meta told investors in July 2024 that Marketplace has seen particular traction with young adults in the US and Canada. It is still a local board: neither it nor Kijiji gives you a checkout, a label or a buyer who has already paid, and that is the gap Whatnot fills.

Do you have to go live?
No. A Whatnot Buy It Now listing is a fixed-price item that appears in your Profile Shop by default, where buyers can browse and purchase at any time, with optional offers and a quantity above one. Only switching on Reserve for Live moves it into a show. Whatnot’s bulk-import tool exists precisely to create draft listings in your inventory that you edit and publish later, no stream required.
What a silent shop does not get is a feed. Whatnot’s explainer on discoverability describes three surfaces — For You, Followed Hosts and category feeds — and states that the For You feed only includes live shows. A Profile Shop listing is found through search and by people already on your profile. For a Kijiji seller that is a familiar position: a Kijiji ad is also found by search and nothing else. The difference is that on Whatnot you can, whenever you choose, put the same inventory in front of a live audience for an hour.
So a Profile Shop is a second shelf with a national delivery radius: nothing to stock it, no expiry, and it catches the buyer who searches for your item. Streaming is what turns it into a channel, and nothing on this page depends on you doing that.
Fees in Canadian dollars, worked through
A personal Kijiji account pays nothing to post a Buy & Sell ad. Kijiji’s May 2026 pricing overview confines listing limits and posting fees to professional and business sellers — one free listing for a professional retailer in Business & Industrial, none for repair services, and fees across Services, Jobs, Real Estate and vehicle-dealer categories, charged per 31-day period. A private seller of cards or sneakers is untouched. Paid visibility exists — Bump Up, Top Ad, Highlight, Homepage Gallery — priced by feature, city and category without a published rate card, but it is optional.
Whatnot charges two fees per sale, set out in its seller fee schedule for the US, Canada and Australia. The commission is 8% of the item’s final sale price, excluding shipping and tax. The payment processing fee is 2.9% of the total order value — item plus buyer-paid shipping plus buyer-paid tax — plus a C$0.30 transaction fee. Coins & Money carries 4% commission, and Whatnot charges nothing to create, store or manage listings. Taxes on the fees themselves may apply depending on your location.
The number that matters for a collectibles seller is the ceiling. Since 14 January 2026, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the portion of a single order above C$1,500 in Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards and the Singles subcategories of Sports Cards, and from 4 June 2026 in Bags & Accessories and Jewellery & Watches too. Processing still applies to the full amount, and Whatnot calls it a limited-time promotion it can end without notice.

Against a Kijiji handover, where the same C$40 lot nets C$40, the first row is a 13% haircut in exchange for a buyer you would never otherwise meet. The third row is the case for the move: on a C$2,000 card the commission stops at C$120 because everything above C$1,500 is at 0%. The fourth row shows the same order in a category outside the promotion.
Shipping: Canada Post, ChitChats and the two-day clock
This is the part of the move that is genuinely new. A Kijiji sale ends when the buyer leaves your driveway. A Whatnot sale starts a clock: Whatnot’s shipping checklist requires you to drop packages with the carrier within two business days of the sale, using Whatnot-generated prepaid labels printed from a desktop browser.
Canadian sellers have two label providers. Canada Post is the default. The alternative is ChitChats, a discount consolidator that hands parcels to Canada Post and USPS for final delivery and has 66 drop-off locations across BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. You choose your default in the mobile app under Seller Hub, Shipping, Preferred Shipping Provider; the toggle is not on the web and only affects orders completed after you switch. Whatnot says ChitChats delivers significantly lower costs for most urban buyers and little difference for rural ones, and that its original flat shipping fee for Canada has been replaced by carrier pricing on origin, destination, weight and dimensions. During the autumn 2025 Canada Post strike Whatnot briefly allowed bring-your-own tracked UPS or FedEx labels.
The setting that decides what your buyer pays is the shipping profile on each listing. Whatnot is explicit that orders placed outside of shows do not use your Seller Hub shipping settings; they are priced from the product’s own profile and the cheapest eligible service. For a Profile Shop seller that makes the weight you enter at listing time the most important shipping decision you make. Too low and the label is underpaid and you owe the difference; too high and every item looks expensive at checkout. A Kijiji ad has no weight field, so this is a value you will be supplying for the first time.
What transfers from a Kijiji ad, field by field
Kijiji’s ad form is short by design: a title, a description, an optional price, up to ten photos and up to five keyword tags, with a location that defaults to a general area. There is no brand field, no size field and no condition field outside a few vertical categories. Whatnot’s form is the reverse: a category and subcategory from a fixed list, a condition from a vocabulary that changes per subcategory, a shipping profile, and for some categories a hazmat flag. Its bulk import rejects any controlled value whose spelling or capitalisation differs from the template and accepts up to eight image URLs per item.

Two Whatnot policies deserve a read before a large push. Whatnot’s condition guides are published per category — cards and Funko, sneakers, electronics, apparel, coins — and a buyer who receives an item below the stated condition is covered by Buyer Protection at your expense. And a short list of categories is gated: Luxury Bags & Accessories, Supplements, Meat & Seafood and Specialty Food require approval, and Surprise Sets in Sneakers & Streetwear are closed to new applicants. A Kijiji seller of designer handbags cannot simply push them; the application comes first.
On the seller side, Whatnot’s application is made in its app, and it says most sellers unlock access within minutes. You give your legal name and the address you ship from, which sets buyer shipping costs. You must live in a supported country, and the country and currency of your bank account must match your registration: a Canadian seller, a Canadian bank, CAD.
GST/HST and the CRA’s platform reporting
Sales tax first. Whatnot is a marketplace facilitator in Canada: for every taxable item delivered to a Canadian address it collects GST/HST, QST and the PST of British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan from the buyer and remits it, regardless of whether you are registered. That is why the order totals in the fee table include HST, and why the processing fee is charged on it. If you are GST/HST-registered, Whatnot asks you to sign a billing-agent election (form GST506) so it keeps collecting on your behalf. Whether you must register is the CRA’s small supplier test: once taxable sales exceed C$30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters, or in a single quarter, registration is mandatory. Whatnot’s Canadian tax guide notes that worldwide taxable sales count, so Whatnot and Kijiji sales are added together.
Reporting second. Canada’s Reporting Rules for Digital Platform Operators received Royal Assent on 22 June 2023 and covered 2024 as the first reporting year, with returns due by 31 January 2025. A platform that processes your sales must collect your name, address, date of birth and tax number and report your annual sales and fees to the CRA, sending you a copy by 31 January (CRA tax tip). You are an excluded seller only if the platform facilitated fewer than 30 sales of goods and no more than C$2,800 in the year. Thirty Whatnot orders is a slow month for an active card seller, so assume you will be reported.
Kijiji sits on the other side of that line: the CRA’s rules say software that exclusively allows listing or advertising is not a platform, and Kijiji neither takes the payment nor knows what you agreed at the door. That is a reporting difference, not a tax difference. Business income is taxable however it is collected; what changes on Whatnot is that the paper trail is built for you.
How to crosslist from Kijiji to Whatnot with FLUF Connect
FLUF Connect reads your live Kijiji ads into one catalogue, matches each to Whatnot’s listing fields, and delivers it to your Whatnot inventory, where you publish it to your Profile Shop. Both channels connect through the FLUF browser extension on your computer, because neither Kijiji nor Whatnot offers a seller API.
- Create a FLUF Connect account and install the browser extension in Chrome.
- Connect Kijiji. Sign in to kijiji.ca in the same browser and follow the prompt. Kijiji is a Canada-only channel and connects only through the extension.
- Connect Whatnot. You need an approved Whatnot seller account first. Sign in to whatnot.com and connect; the extension is required here as well.
- Import your Kijiji ads. FLUF brings titles, descriptions, prices and photos into your catalogue. Nothing is published anywhere at this step.
- Fill the gaps Kijiji left. Confirm the Whatnot category and condition FLUF proposes, and set a shipping profile. Brand and size, where the category uses them, are added on the listing in Whatnot afterwards.
- Select and crosslist. Pick items one at a time, filter by category, or push a batch. Listings land in your Whatnot inventory as drafts; open Whatnot and publish them to your Profile Shop.
- Leave it running. Keep the browser signed in to both sites while a batch runs. Auto-crosslisting rules can send new catalogue items to Whatnot as you add them.
Whatnot’s own CSV import is a fair tool for one afternoon’s upload. What it cannot do is notice, a week later, that the item sold and pull it down elsewhere.
What syncs between Kijiji and Whatnot, and what does not
Whatnot reports its orders to FLUF Connect and accepts a delist instruction, so in one direction the pair is fully protected. Kijiji is a classifieds board where the sale happens in person, so in the other direction the protection depends on one action from you.

Why the Kijiji direction is manual: on a classifieds site an ad disappearing means it expired, was paused or was deleted by hand far more often than it means the item sold, and treating every vanished ad as a sale would strip live stock off Whatnot for items still in your cupboard. FLUF does not guess. You mark the sale, which takes a second, and everything else follows.
The Whatnot direction is where the tool earns its keep. Whatnot buyers pay at checkout and expect a label within two business days; an item already handed to a Kijiji buyer for cash is a cancellation, a refund and a mark against the fulfilment metrics Whatnot says it weighs when ranking sellers.
Before and after, on a box of thirty items
Before. Copy each Kijiji title and description into a spreadsheet. Download the photos, re-host them with a public https link, and paste up to eight URLs per row. Download Whatnot’s CSV template on a desktop, look up the exact Category, Sub Category, Type, Condition and Shipping Profile strings for thirty items, and match the capitalisation. Upload, fix the rejected rows, open each draft and publish it. Then, every time a Whatnot order arrives, remember to delete the Kijiji ad before a local buyer messages you; and every time a Kijiji buyer drives away with an item, remember to deactivate it on Whatnot before it sells there too.
After. Connect both channels once. Select the thirty items. Confirm category and condition on the handful FLUF flags, pick a shipping band, push. Publish the drafts in Whatnot in one sitting. From then on a Whatnot order ends the Kijiji ad on its own, and a Kijiji handover is one tap in FLUF.
The listing time is the smaller saving. The larger one is that the Whatnot shelf stops needing supervision, which is the only condition under which a Kijiji seller will keep it stocked.

What we could not verify. Kijiji’s audience figure is Kijiji’s own; no independent Comscore figure was available. Whatnot’s fee page shows a dollar sign for the Canada column without a currency code; we have treated the C$0.30 fee as CAD on the strength of the CAD FAQ, and the worked examples round to the cent. Whatnot does not publish Canadian label rates, so none is quoted. The 0% commission band is a limited-time promotion and may have changed. Everything was read on 9 September 2026.

FLUF Connect detects the Whatnot order and ends the matching Kijiji ad, and the order appears in your FLUF order list alongside your other channels. If the same item is live on any other connected marketplace, it is ended there as well. You then ship the Whatnot order with a Canada Post or ChitChats label within two business days.
