Key Takeaways: Depop to willhaben

  • Who it suits: Depop sellers based in Austria. willhaben’s PayLivery checkout only works for sales inside Austria, so a seller elsewhere cannot post to willhaben buyers through it.
  • Depop fees: sellers outside the UK, US and Australia pay a 10% selling fee plus PayPal’s processing fee.
  • willhaben fees: a private ad costs nothing and runs for 45 days. PayLivery is free for the seller. The buyer pays postage and buyer protection.
  • Sync on this pair is manual both ways. A Depop sale does not end the willhaben ad, and a willhaben sale is not detected. You close the other side yourself.
  • With FLUF Connect you import your Depop listings and publish them to willhaben. 7 days for £1, then from £9/month, then plans from £9/month. Relisting on willhaben comes with the plans above Starter.

Is this route for you?

This guide is for you if you already sell on Depop and you live in Austria. willhaben is a domestic marketplace. Its PayLivery payment and shipping service can only be used for sales within Austria and cannot send parcels across the border.

Depop takes sellers from outside its three home markets. Its seller fees page has one set of rules for everyone outside the UK, US and Australia, and an Austrian shop falls into that group. If you use Depop to run a business, its Terms of Service class you as a Business User.

The reason to add willhaben is simple. You keep your Depop audience and add Austrian buyers who search a general classifieds site and pay by card at checkout.

What each marketplace charges an Austrian seller

Cost Depop (seller outside UK, US, AU) willhaben (private seller)
Listing Not among the listed fees Free private ad, 45 days
Selling fee 10% of the sale price None with PayLivery
Payment processing PayPal’s fee, which varies by account None for the seller
Postage You set a price and ship with your own carrier Buyer pays, label supplied

On Depop, the 10% applies to the item price and, if you did not use a Depop shipping label, to the postage too. PayPal takes its own fee separately, and the PayPal help article confirms buyers can still check out by card as guests. Sellers outside the UK and US who boost a listing pay 8% on that sale.

On willhaben, PayLivery is free for the seller. The buyer pays postage plus a buyer protection charge that starts at €1.99 or 4.5% of the item price and varies by category. A buyer who sends you a price request is offering the amount you will be paid, because postage and buyer protection are added on top.

A worked example: a vintage jacket sells for €40 on Depop through PayPal with seller-paid postage of €6. Depop’s fee is 10% of €46, which is €4.60, before PayPal’s cut. The same jacket at €40 on willhaben pays you €40.

willhaben rules to know before you move Depop stock

Which Depop items qualify for PayLivery

Most Depop stock fits. PayLivery covers the whole of Mode / Accessoires, as well as watches and jewellery, books, films and music, and cameras. Some sub-categories are excluded, such as coins, stamps and paintings under Antiquitäten / Kunst (antiques and art).

Parcel sizes and postage

You choose the parcel size and carrier when you create the ad. The parcel size list shows Post, Hermes and DPD options. A Post Versandtasche (mailer bag up to 2 kg, delivered to the letterbox) costs the buyer €4.40. Until willhaben withdraws the offer, shipping in Mode / Accessoires starts at €3.49. You cannot change the size once a PayLivery sale is under way, so pick it with care.

“Sofort kaufen” and requests

Buyers can send a request with a price proposal, or pay the asking price at once with “Sofort kaufen” (buy now). You cannot switch “Sofort kaufen” off on a PayLivery ad. After a buyer pays, you have 24 hours to accept or decline, and seven days to post the parcel. If you do not answer, the buyer gets a full refund.

That rule matters for a crosslister. If a piece has already sold on Depop, decline the willhaben purchase so the buyer is refunded, then end the ad.

Ad length and your data

A free private marketplace ad runs for 45 days with no limit on photos. A business ad runs for 60 days. Expired ads stay in Meine Anzeigen (my ads) until you delete or republish them, but willhaben deletes their photos after about two to three months.

willhaben must report sellers to the Austrian tax office under DAC7/DPMG once they make 30 or more PayLivery sales in a calendar year, or more than €2,000 in PayLivery revenue. willhaben notes that reaching the threshold does not by itself mean you owe tax.

Posting orders from each side

On willhaben, you get a print-at-home label after the buyer pays. If you have no printer, scan the QR code at a post office counter or self-service zone to get the label there. Your money arrives once the parcel has reached the buyer as described.

On Depop, a seller outside the US and UK ships with a carrier of their choice and can switch on Worldwide shipping per listing. Depop asks you to use tracked postage and add the tracking number to the sale. Keep your receipt in case a buyer says the parcel never came.

When an item sells on Depop. FLUF records the sale, but the willhaben ad stays live. Delete the ad on willhaben yourself. If a willhaben buyer has already paid through “Sofort kaufen”, decline the purchase first.

When an item sells on willhaben. FLUF does not detect it. Mark the product as sold in FLUF, and FLUF ends the Depop listing. Do the same after a cash sale at collection. On willhaben, set the ad to “Verkauft” (sold) so it drops out of search results. That status cannot be undone.

A short routine keeps you safe from double sales: check your Depop sold list and your willhaben requests every day, and close the other side of each sale.

Relisting when a willhaben ad expires

By hand, you open Meine Anzeigen, choose “Neu veröffentlichen” (publish again), check the details and publish. willhaben states that republishing a free ad no longer dates it as a new ad of that day.

FLUF can relist your willhaben ads and your Depop listings for you. Relisting comes with the plans above Starter.
