Victorian Sterling Silver Button Hook Antique Hallmarked C&C Vanity Tool
Description
Up for sale is a beautiful antique Victorian/Edwardian era button hook featuring a hallmarked sterling silver handle and a durable steel hook. These vanity tools were traditionally used in the 19th and early 20th centuries to help fasten the tiny, tight buttons on ladies' boots, gloves, and corsets.
The handle has an elegant, ergonomic shape that feels wonderful in the hand. The steel shank is stamped with what appears to be a manufacturer's mark ("STEEL" or a maker's name), which was standard practice to show the functional end was strong enough for heavy use.
Hallmarks & Maker
Material: Sterling Silver Handle (filled/weighted for stability, standard for this type of vanity item) with a Steel Hook.
Hallmarks: Stamped on the side of the handle with British silver hallmarks, including the Lion Passant (confirming .925 sterling purity), a city assay mark, and a date letter.
Maker’s Mark: Partially visible, looks to be C&C (or similar).
Condition Report
Overall Condition: Very Good antique condition with a gorgeous, authentic patina.
Handle: The sterling silver handle is structurally sound with no major dents or splits. It shows light, honest wear and surface micro-scratches consistent with age and use.
Hook: The steel hook is firmly attached to the handle. It has expected antique darkening/oxidation, adding to its vintage character, but is completely solid and functional.
